ALTERNATE SOURCES OF ENERGY

Alternate Sources of Energy and Energy Conservation Measures

SVKM’s Institute of Pharmacy is discharging its responsibilities towards sustainable development. various measures are in practice as measures of alternate source of energy

Figure. Indicatives and measures for energy conservation

1. Roof top Solar Panel

To ensure maximum power savings, institute has installed photo voltaic solar panels (Total capacity of solar panels: 72 Kw) on the terrace. This panels concentrate solar energy to convert into electrical energy to fulfill need of the building. Solar PV system is connected to main electricity grid. Almost entire day time need of electricity is fulfilled by this renewable energy source. Following datasheet shows overall capacity of solar panels at SVKM, Dhule campus:

Case study of March 2022

  • Pharmacy meter serial number: 055-X1694114
  • Current reading: 72331.80 (31/03/22)
  • Previous reading:61228.60 (28/02/22)
  • No. of Units Produced: 11103.20
  • Consumption: 11103:00
  • Adjustment:0.000
  • Total Consumption: 11103

2. Use of LED lights

LED-based energy conservation system is in practice in entire building. Following types of LED lights are there:

  • 2x2 LED: 38 watts (Phillips)
  • 2x2 LED: 40 watts (Panasonic)
  • Round LED: 15 watts (Phillips)
  • Reflector light at reception: 12 watt

Following table summarizes floor wise LED light installation in our institute

Other measures to conserve energy

  • Building construction is in such a manner that in most of the areas (laboratories, faculty cabins, corridoors, etc.) there is minimum use of even LEDs in day time (except winter/rainy season/ inclement weather).
  • Various events are organized under different banners to sensitize and make students and staff aware about importance of 5 "R”s for sustainable growth that is Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle.
  • Energy saving (star indicating) appliances are there.
